WSC Interviews

Meticulously recorded and assembled by Mike Perreault, below are interviews from our Windansea Surf Club legends. Answering questions about the history of our club and their involvement in it, these icons remind us of what it means to be a member of the mighty WSC.
Harold Reid
From the very first bus ride to Malibu and the birth of the Windansea Surf Club, to his long-standing appointment as the Chair of the Membership committee, Harold Reid has been involved in every part of the WSC since its inception. In 2023, he became the namesake and first recipient of the Harold Reid Lifetime Service Award. Today, he meticulously crafts trophies for the Menehune and continues to vet new members to make sure they are up to standards of the mighty WSC.

Tune in below for a discussion on the beginnings of WSC, the importance of community service, and the operations behind the Menehune Contest!
"It has grown into what it is today, which is still the strongest surf club there is."

"This community service work is a gift to the public who don't get to do this but one day a year, to join in and surf."

"It's what surfing does, it's nourishment, it strengthens you. It makes you better for so many reasons."

"My biggest joy is doing things for the club."

"I'm old and tired."
Miranda Joseph
The undisputed matriarch of the Windansea Surf Club and the Coalition Team, Miranda Joseph has been a force in the club for almost forty years. With her passion for the spirit of competition and for mentorship of young members, she can always be found at events under a Windansea tent cheering us on.

Tune in below for Miranda Joseph's perspective on surfing and style, as well as the importance of the next generation, paired with a clinic on noseriding from the expert herself.
"My whole life centered around surfing."

"I have a community of surfers that I feel that I am at home everywhere I go."

"I get excited. I get pumped. I get amped from surfing. I get this energy that courses through me. I am really really stoked to be able to help the young kids."

"Chuck Hasley was pretty fun... one of the most all-time. The Coach! I am lucky to have known him."

"Everything hurts now."

"If we don't all give back, you know, and continue to grow our ranks, it seem slike there won't be much of a future of our club."
Chip Hasley
The son of the founder and first president of the mighty WSC, Chuck Hasley, Chip Hasley was the first child of the WSC. Chip went on become president himself and still remains on the Board of Directors as a Director at Large. His decades long focus on the club's community service and maintaining the Menehune has helped make WSC what it is today.
