As we enter the 2019 coalition contest season I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our comp team for their undeniable drive and outstanding performance in 2018.
With Comp Team Director, Jon Roseman and Ozstar de Jourday leading the charge not only did we regain the title of coalition champion, we swept the series with 6 wins, 3 second place and 1 third place finish.
Every team member fought hard for all of these wins beginning with the “Big Bad and Ugly”
I watched Miranda Joseph, age 54 tear apart Malibu Point at Call to the Wall. She made it look easy - picking only the best set waves to put on a clinic connecting smooth maneuvers all the way to finish in front of the judges on the inside. Not only there for her heats, she was a fixture underneath the Windansea tents loudly cheering on her teammates with enthusiasm, "BLEEP! BLEEP!". The junior women and menehune girls sit close to "Mir" to listen for golden nuggets of advi
A soon to be new family member of the Windansea Surf Club has recently cemented his reputation as he dominated in the 2018 Malibu Call to the Wall. Ripping in his long board heat, Phil Rajzman, age 36 carved his way to the finals, achieving first place. His strong yet fluid style won over the judges as he ran back and forth playing tag with the nose and floating across sections on his hi comp Hobie board. pictured: @philrajzman 📷:@rickybickford Falling on the same weekend as our Day at the Beach with St. Vincent de Paul, a small crew of our competition team represented us up north at the OLSC's contest. The event kicked off Friday with a Pro-Am Noseriding Contest and finished strong with vendors, bands, food, beer garden and luau in the amphitheater - always a good time, just wish it was on another weekend. Kudos to Phil Rajzman for winning his division and Mike Myers, Ozst
The 26th annual Call to the Wall of 2018 was a Windansea domination. The ocean gave us perfect sunny 3-5 foot conditions and big swinging tide shifts. Moral was high as member after member made it through preliminary heats putting together the best 2 rides in the 15 minute heats. The only challenge was to make it around the speeding section before the lifeguard tower and avoid the shallow rocks that will knock out your fin ( I should know!). Club members chilled out all day u
The club put up a strong showing only falling short to host Santa Cruz Longboard Union at the 34th annual SCLU Club Invitational up at Steamer Lane. The conditions on Saturday for the preliminary rounds were about as good as it gets and the team crushed it, finishing the day just 90 points behind SCLU. Sunday, the size dropped a bit and the sets were more intermittent, but the surf was still fun. By the time the finals started, early Sunday morning, Windansea had earned 24
Way to Windansea to rally together for the 34th SCLE Invitational at Steamer's Lane. We came in all shapes and sizes including President Bill Fitzmaurice with his U-Haul full of pretty much anything you could think of. If you cracked it at 3am (far from bright-eyed) you were able to get a killer warm up session in at the Lane with the rest of the day to get camp set up. In my opinion what is one of the most unique experiences is getting to be in such close quarters with eve
We had a great group of people in Pleasure Point for the 2018 Logjam. The weekend was full of aloha, team spirit, and excellent surfing. The waves were perfect for the event but the water was just a tad cold. The rental house was incredible, just a few blocks from the point, complete with a jacuzzi, access to a private beach, and bikes. We got the party going on Friday with a quick stop at the giant artichoke and a classic WSC photo on top of the DeJourday surf mobile. The
Now with GOTT in the books, next up is Log Jam! with our Big Stick friends up north at Pleasure Point... Logjam! is an " Old Boards, No Cords" retro surfboard contest that features pre-1970 vintage surfboards, weighing 20 lbs or more, single fins, that are surfed without the use of a leash. With an Aloha spirit, this event recreates the early years of California surfing before technology evolved boards and surfing to the current day.

This weekend Windansea rewrote a New Testament as we took over Church. With glassy conditions and decent waves it was easy cruising for our competition team. High tide, sunny skies and 3-5 ft conditions served team riders well Saturday morning. Windansea flooded the beach with around 50 supporters coming out to compete, sunbath, and cheer on all our participants. As the tide drew back and clouds covered up the sky our amount grew thinner leaving the luckiest for Sunday aftern
Here we go - this weekend April 14-15 is our next contest for Gathering of the Tribes at Church. Doheny Longboard Surfing Associations (DLSA) will be hosting and promises good grinds on the beach for breakfast and lunch. Make sure to show up alittle early to get a parking space, $20, load your stuff in the shuttle and walk down to the beach. Looks like Saturday will have some fun swell, alittle smaller on Sunday. Heats start at 6:45am and run until 5:45pm. There is a padd
The Mighty WindanSea Surf Club took full advantage of the head high+ conditions and logged an aloha heat for the ages. Lead by first place finishers Ricky Cunningham pictured here, Keili McEvilly, Miranda Joseph, Kyra Joseph, and the duo of Ricky / Mathew in the aloha heat, the WSC team took the 2nd place spot overall just missing first by the narrowest 12300 to 12000 point margin! We arrived and immediately took to the water even though conditions were rough on Friday. The p
Estero Bay Surf Club will be hosting the first coalition contest of 2018 at Morro Rock Feb 17-18 (President's Day weekend). This will be the first time their contest is part of the coalition series. The Rock at Morro Bay is known for its challenging surfing conditions - bring your full suit! There are divisions both long/short/SUP, women, mens, groms, juniors, legends - we need the whole team to show up. Contact Team Captain Jon Roseman if you would like to surf in this ev
This weekend brought epic weather and a little surf to the 8th annual Tourmaline Classic hosted by Cardiff Reef Club and Pacific Beach Club, but the comp team showed up in the finals in just about every division except 2! And the highlights were many... In the paddle race Joel Tudor gave us a strong start in second with Tiare Thompson bringing us in contention for 1st by catching a wave in! The gap only grew with our anchor crossing the line with a strong lead. We had mothe
What can I say... the water was warm, weather epic and the waves ~ small. This proved to be a challenge for our team. We had some amazing surfers not advance out of their first heat due to inconsistent and small conditions. Cheers and spirits remained high under the Windansea tent. Mid-day Saturday we had a nice break to watch the SurfAid event get underway. Devon Howard, Isaac Wood, JoJo Roper, Jen Smith and the Brown's were hanging out in between SurfAid heats. Karl Lu
We headed north with the best of intentions, hurricane swell was hitting and we were seeking our third team victory in as many straight years at the Malibu Boardriders Call to the Wall 2017. But is wasn't meant to be, the pumping swell from the previous 3 days disappeared the moment they started the first heat. Luckily our Women, lead by Miranda Joseph, Indy Callaway, and Samantha Roper made sure we could hold our heads high. The Malibu clubs seem to have grown tired of us w
It took awhile to write this post because the team results were so close - 100 pts and we ended up taking 2nd to Santa Cruz - so close. Fun weekend regardless, awesome weather. Lots of great surfing witnessed that made the drive north worthwhile. As you can see, alot of our team made the finals in their divisions. WINDANSEA FINALISTS: 2nd- Helena Roseman, novice 5th - Dylan Needleham, novice 6th - Cheryl Ruyle, novice 2nd - Sophia McGovern, Menehune Girls 14 & under 1st - T
Wind An Sea Surf Club was on site to enjoy 3 - 5 foot Churches, with perfect winds and no crowds for 2 days straight. We had a solid team and loads of ohana there to support, but it was the mens "Legends" with the most stoke and energy of any team including (Gary Linden, Kevin Cincotta, Ostar Dejourday, and Bob Pierce). Ricky Cunningham was the surfer in form styling his way to 1st place in the Men's division. There was no such thing as an easy heat in any division and Wind
Windansea has been invited to compete in this year's Rincon Invitational March 18-19th hosted by Groundswell Society. 20 clubs have been invited that demonstrated outstanding community service, so we are honored to take part in this unique event that does not score maneuvers but how many waves a club can share in one hour (check out the rules here)! As a fundraising event, Groundswell Society has raised almost $20,000 for the Rincon Scholarships, which have been awarded to hi
WindanSea Surf Club fielded the largest team ever for a non-WindanSea event with 53 spots spanning every division. We even had world champs Joel Tudor and Jen Smith representing WSC. The surf produced fun-sized rippable 3 ft longboard waves while shortboard conditions were a bit lacking. It was "game-on" as we were neck and neck with Oceanside and their 60 spot team all weekend including a photo finish paddle race where Oceanside got the nod despite an illegal transfer. O'si
